The Red Dragon Guppy has a vivid red body with intricate dragon-like patterns and flowing fins. It has a halfmoon-shaped tail. The male is usually colorful but smaller than the female, which is usually less colorful.

Care

Hard freshwater. Aquarium of at least 5 gallons, plus 1 gallon for each additional adult guppy. Temperature: 74–82 °F. pH: 6.8–7.6. Hardness: 12–18 kH; the page recommends adding some aquarium salt if local water is soft. Substrate: sand, rocks, and vegetation; setup: plants, caves, and decorations. A filter is not essential but can help maintain water quality. Aeration and a heater are recommended to prevent temperature fluctuations. Lighting is unnecessary unless the aquarium is heavily planted or lacks natural daylight. To acclimate, float the sealed bag for approximately 15–20 minutes, gradually add small amounts of aquarium water over the next 15–20 minutes, and transfer the fish with a net; do not pour shipping water into the aquarium, and turn off the lights while it adjusts.
